Investigating If It’s Possible To Meet Someone In A Dream

Visiting someone in a dream

But one of the most common questions asked by would-be controlled-dreamers is, can you visit someone in a lucid dream?

Exploring The Possibility Of Meeting Someone In A Dream

I explored a similar topic to this one in the article about mutual dreams and shared lucid dreams but in this article I look at the same subject matter from a slightly different angle.

In the aforementioned article I review the curious cases of shared dreams and the current ongoing investigations into shared mutual lucid dreams.

In these cases both dreaming parties are aware that a shared mutual dream is the goal.

In this article I look at the possibility of meeting someone in a dream, and a lucid dream, without them knowing about it consciously.

Friends meeting

This could be likened to the dream invasion that took place in the movie Inception with Leonardo DiCaprio.

Is it possible to meet someone in a dream?

It is possible to meet someone in a dream.

However, you will only be meeting your own subconscious representation of that person. Because a dream only occurs within your sleeping brain you cannot visit someone in the physical world nor can you share a dream with them.

Even experimentation and evidence from experienced lucid dreamers (people who are awake consciously within the dream and can fully control it – see this article)  supports this view.

Perhaps lucid dreams are different and meeting someone in a state of lucidity is possible

Do you want to fly like superman, sail the seven seas like Sinbad or pirate your way round the Caribbean like Captain Jack Sparrow?

Maybe you want to drive a starship or would simply like have a quiet liaison with your favorite celebrity while experiencing life as the richest person alive.

All these things, and more, are possible through controlled dreaming.

Lucid dreaming opens up a whole world of possibilities.

In truth the only limitations you have in lucid dreams are those imposed upon you by your own beliefs and your own imagination.

So, can you meet someone in a lucid dream and interact with them?

You can meet with anyone you want in a lucid dream but it will not be the real person.

You will meet a subconscious representation of that person only, though they will look, feel and act very real.

Lucid dreams are amazing things.

Even after thousands of years of practice and approximately 50 years of research, we still have only scratched the surface of the potential of lucid dreaming.

For example, are you aware that you can use your lucid dreams to help you with your academic studies.

They can also be used to help you get better at sport or improve your skills at work by allowing you to affect your reality is some really cool ways.

Some people even believe that lucid dreaming can be used for manifestation or to shift reality (though shifting and lucid dreaming are not the same thing).

Unbelievable as it may sound lucid dreaming has also be shown to help make you smarter.

So, it is not a stretch for many lucid dreamers, and non-lucid dreamers alike, to believe that it may be possible to use lucid dreams to visit other people.

Fortunately though, this is not the case. I will explain why in a short while.

The simple fact is that everything within a lucid dream is occurring inside you.

It’s all happening in your brain.

Because your lucid dream is a product of specific brain functions, and because the state of consciousness you are in is similar to states that you usually only enter during specific periods of your waking day, we can safely say that lucid dreaming definitely only happens in the brain.

Therefore, you cannot exert any control over the outside world from within your dreams nor can you meet with anyone else – at least not in a real-world sense.

This is very good news!

If we could visit other people in the real world from within our dreams it would open up all sorts of possibilities, not all of which are good. Think Freddy Krueger and you will get the picture.

Visiting other people in their dreams “inception style” is not possible

Ok, so we can’t visit physical people via our lucid dreams but what about visiting them in their dreams? Can you lucid dream your way into the dreams of someone else?

You cannot visit another person’s dreams. Dreams happen in the brain of the dreamer and therefore occur in an isolated environment.

Even experienced lucid dreamers have attempted to visit other people’s dreams and failed.

Although it it was a very cool concept that Inception offered us, and a great twist on how to use lucid dreams, the entire notion that you can invade someone else’s dreamworld is complete fiction.

Now this is not the same thing as having a shared lucid dream with someone else, which is a different topic entirely which I have covered separately and so I won’t go into that subject here.

But as far as visiting someone via their dreams I can say clearly and with conviction that it is simply not possible.

It is not possible to visit other people in the real world, or in their dreams, even when you are lucid dreaming.

However, although you cannot visit someone physically, i.e. meet with the real person, you can, in a lucid dream, meet with a very good representation of them.

Let’s take a look at how that works now.

The truth about visiting other people in lucid dreams

You can visit and be with anyone you want in a lucid dream. There are no exceptions. The person can even be dead in real life.

The person you visit in a dream can also be totally fabricated being purely a product of your own imagination.

You see within a controlled lucid dream it is completely possible to conjure up any person you want and then interact with them in any way you want to.

But, you must bear in mind that this is just a representation of that person and not the real person.

No matter how adept you are at lucid dreaming you simply cannot meet with a physical person in a dream.

However, this does not mean the person will not look, feel and act real. Many people in lucid dreams tend to feel very real (there is very specific reasons for this).

Dream characters often display their own personalities and own agendas even within lucid dreams.

So, many times the dream representation of a person you want to visit will be very far removed from that person’s true personality.

This is especially true of dream characters who represent real people whom we do not know in the physical world.

However, if you know the person very well or have at least a working knowledge of them (such as a celebrity) then the representation of that person in your lucid dream is much more likely to feel more accurate and true to the character of that person.

In fact, sometimes a dream character in a lucid dream is so much like the real person that you may struggle to accept they are not real.

However, rest assured they are not!

So to recap: You can visit anyone you want to visit in a lucid dream.

As you have complete control over lucid dreams you can create any type of scenario you want and experience with whomever you want.

But … and this is a BIG “but” … that person is not real.

It is not the unconscious sleeping person but merely your subconscious mind’s representation of them.

Anyone you meet within a lucid is just a representation of the person and is a creation of your subconscious mind.

There will be times when you meet individuals within your lucid dreams who seem so real that it baffles the mind that they are just mental constructs especially when they do or say things that are unfamiliar to you.

A perfect example of this can be seen in this account of an unusual lucid dream. In the lucid dream the American dreamer asks a dream character what height he is.

The guy responds by telling the dreamer his height, only he uses centimeters. As you already know feet and inches are the preferred height measurement in the USA (and also in Ireland, the UK).

So the dreamer cites this as evidence that the guy may well have been real. After all wouldn’t a dream figure answer in the same standard of measurement as the dreamer?

The simple answer to that question is no!

I have 2 points to disprove the ascertain that the character in the dream was real and can show how he was much more likely to be a creation of the subconscious mind.

Firstly, your subconscious mind is very knowledgeable. It has access to all the information that you have ever encountered.

It could certainly create a dream character who gives his height in centimeters.

Secondly,  I don’t know of anywhere in the world that uses centimeters as a measurement for human height. Centimeters are only used to measure fairly small things.

Anything over 1 meter is not measured in centimeters. In most of Europe, and other parts of the world where they do not use feet and inches, they use meters as the standard.

So the fact that the dream character used centimeters to give his height is a strong indication that he was not real.

How To Visit People In Your Dreams

To visit anyone you like in a lucid dream, and do what you want with them, you must first learn how to lucid dream.

Once you learn how to lucid dream you start to hone your dream-control skills.

Then it is just a matter of intending or willing a specific person to come to you in the dream.

That is literally all it takes.

Some dreamers will simply call out aloud to the dream to bring that person and they will show up while others merely think of them and they come.

Of course to do this you need to be able to lucid dream consistently and with control.

The fastest and easiest way to do this is to follow the simple instructions in a good lucid dreaming course.

Everyone can lucid dream and that includes you.

It just takes patience and persistence to learn the skill but once you have it there is no end to what you can do. So why not give it a try today?
